Lucky?

I have presented to different school districts this summer and have come to realize that we are VERY lucky in O'Neill to have access to the technology that we have.

Talk this week about if you have experienced this in your situation. Do you have friends in other school districts that are jealous of your 24/7 laptop access? Do you know of other schools that are doing what we are doing?

Thanks and have a great weekend.

i have experienced the luckiness because i've never had a computer.. so if i had homework that needed to be done on a computer i had to do it at school or go to the public library... plus i know im lucky cause my sisters tell me it isn't fair we all get laptops and they didn't.. i do know of other schools that have this but i don't remember which one

I think this is a very lucky situation that we have. My friends are very jealous because they are not aloud to get computers, and they don't have the resources that i do. I do know that pierce has lab tops, and also some of the Omaha and Lincoln schools.

i don't know of any other kids that are jealous but my siblings think that its really cool.I have never had my own computer so it's a great convenience that i am not going to waste.

I think we are lucky to have the computers in a way. I can do some of my homework at home if I need too. I don't know of other schools in our area though that have laptops.

When i went to Plainview High School we didn't have MacBooks. When i talk to my friends from Plainview and tell them about the MacBooks they always tell me how much they wish they had some. They tell me that they would love to have an opportunity like this. This is the only School that i know of that have laptops.

I'm really glad that we have lap tops it's just nice to have everything on your computer and not have to use folders and notebooks. I haven't really talked to anyone from another school about the lap tops but I'm sure if I did they'd be jealous. I did hear that Pierce got lap tops although I haven't talked to anyone from there to hear about how they like there new technology.

I feel very Blessed to have a laptop it is sooo useful :) at my old school last year we had No computer access at all! and now i have not only computer access but I also have my very own computer! I love it! My cousin in Omaha has the same that we do,but they are not aloud to use ichat or download things. So I'm excited that we have the privilege to do what we want! :)

At first i didn't think i would like mac books because i thought they were too challenging but now that i have my own and i can play around on it i love it. I am very glad we have them and it would just be weird without them. The macs really help out with getting homework done and easy access to the internet. I have talked to people from other towns who are jealous that we have laptops and they don't. I really like that we all have these macs and think it is a big plus to our school.

Actually I have, I kind of have a funny story on that front:

My cousin (goes to school in Armor South Dakota) recruited me to help her get laptops at her school. Her school is about 150 people max, that's counting teachers, so it isn't a very expensive program for them.

I went to Armour, in a series of 5 meetings over the course of a week in front of the Armor school board I talked about how we have these laptops at school here in O'Neill. I had my flash drive with me (it had all of the projects and other things I had done on my mac). I also took my report card from 1 year without the macs and my report card of the 2nd semester with them! There was an improvement, whether it was the mac or not I really don't know but it was convincing.

Anyhow, I presented all of this at these meetings, and the board was impressed with the program, they saw potential in it, they wanted to see me use one of the macs but I didn't have one and all they had was a Windows laptop there, it didn't matter. My cousin and I even demonstrated another situation, it was write a paragraph about George Washington, my cousin took her 'W' encyclopedia and I took Google, Wiki, Encyclopedia.com, and other websites, even the encyclopedia installed on the PC, I had the paragraph typed and printed in under 10 minutes. She had a notebook, pencil, and Encyclopedia and she was still writing her first few sentences in that time!

So, overall I would have to say we are lucky to have these laptops at OHS, and they are lucky to have them in Armour now too =D, that's right it worked they got laptops, granted they liked the way O'Neill did things, they are going to give them to Juniors and Seniors the 2nd Semester this year.

They want me to come back and show a group of students how to use the Macs, the teachers are, of course, going to special pro training but the board said students will learn better from other students.

Again, I think we are more than lucky to have these laptops, my friends at my old school, Gregory South Dakota, are jealous of this Mac program we have and are kinda angry I helped Armour and not Gregory! Gregory would be slightly more expensive than the program in Armour though.

That's all I have for this week, if you read this all THANKS! If not, scroll back up and read it lazy bones! lol.

I am very excited to have a laptop not only for school use but also for personal use at home. It makes everything so much easier and the learning process go by much smoother. I went to west holt last year and we didn't have a program like this so its a really big treat for me. All of my friends are jealous of our privileges at OHS. It saves me a lot of hassle so we are definitely very lucky!

I do not know of any other school that is doing what this school is doing. I don't know anyone that is jealous of the laptops. I think it is a big opportunity to have these laptops to ourselves.

I don't know of any other schools that have the new technology that we have, but I have talked to kids who have already graduated from a few years ago and they are jealous that they couldn't have the laptop. And yes, I think we are very lucky to have this kind of technology. Like I have said before, I love my laptop, and yes, there are going to be glitches in the systems sometimes, but other than that it is a great program.

I like the technology in our school and i believe we are ahead of most other students. Not only is it convenient but its also helpful to us because the world around us is becoming more and more technologically advanced by the day. I have talked to other kids from different towns and they think that the laptops would be a great idea and that they wish they all had their own personal laptops as well.

I think we are pretty lucky that we get to use the macs like this. It makes things a lot easier to do homework and other projects.

i talked to some people from my old school saying that we have 24/7 learning about the laptops. some thought it was a dumb idea and wasteful to spend that much money on laptops. others thought it was a cool idea.

Anonymous said...

Yes I think that were lucky because having these allow everyone to have access to a computer and wireless internet at different locations in O'Neill. I have heard that Centura does 24/7 learning and some girls at camp ryla said that their schools are going to start 24/7 this year. We are lucky because I know some of the St. Mary's kids would like to do their senior videos but they dont have access like we do.

I have never heard of any schools with the advanced technology that we have access to, although I know there are a few out there. I feel we are extremely lucky to have our laptops, and I'm sure many schools would love to be given this opportunity. I think this access will definitely give us the head start we will need to make it in this technology based world.

I think we are very lucky to have these computers and they are very helpful. I have some friends in Homer that wish they could have a laptops like us. But in this area I don't know of any schools that have the program we have.

I don't know of any other schools that have laptops for every student and I can't imagine not being jealous.

I think it's a great thing that we have our laptop's. We are very fortunate to have the resources we do here at school. I really don't know any other school's that have laptops....

Ive never really heard any one that was jealous all though there has to be a lot of people that would love to have macs at their school im not saying that their arent but ive actually had people laugh because we used macs (He had never used a mac before and not a clue how one worked though.

I think we're very lucky to have these laptops. They don't only helpu us now with homework, etc, but they prepare us for our future. Our country is advancing so much in technology year after year, and we as high schoolers are already ahead of the game. My cousin goes to school in Cairo, and they just got laptops about 6 months before we did, but they got the older mac version. She's jealous because we have the new ones and theirs are big and bulky.

Well I haven't heard of another high-school that has actually done the 24/7 learning but plenty of school are thinking about it. i do feel that the 24/7 learn is much better, easier, and more efficient than standard learning.
Many collages in the Omaha, Lincoln area is supplying frats and sorority's with PC computer labs that they update every two - four years, and they give students the option of buying laptops from the collages at a small fee for them to keep.

well i do feel lucky cuz we have been given wat i think is a great opportunity. by working with computers we are ahead of other school's simply because of the technology basis.

i dont know of any schools that do the 24/7 laptop deal. i really dont know of any1 who has commented in anyway about our laptops.

i think we are lucky to have laptops at first i though i was not going to like this school but then i found out we get laptops that changed my mind! and i kind of like it now!

I do feel really lucky to have the 24/7 access to the laptop. I mean my parents had a computer that i could use but now I don't have to beg for permission to use it because I have my own. I know there a lot of schools that don't have this privilege and a couple i have heard that do. And just like Kacey said my sisters always tell me that it isn't fair because they never got one when they went to school here.

I feel privileged to know that our school is one of the few in the state to have laptops for their students to use 24/7! I think we are all very lucky to be able to consider a macbook to be ours for the school year!

yay we r darn lucky and um yay all of my out of town friends a way jelous x cept for the ones who have there own laptops

Anonymous said...

i also think we are very lucky to have the laptops and all the technology we have. in Omaha i think Gross Catholic High School id the only one with the laptop program but they only give them to like students with high graders or on the hoer roll.

No I do not know of anyone being jealous and I do not know of any schools, I do not know anything!!!

I do have friends in other school districts that are jealous that we have these computers. i know a few actually. and i don't know any other schools off the top of my head that do what we are doing.

i think a lot of school would like to have them but, already people in this school take them for granted. I think other schools would be the same way.

The Mac books are very nice in many ways but truthfully to me, they aren't really that special if anything there bad. Our society is going so far with technology that we humans our gonna loose the ability to take care of our self's. Technology doesn't help when your trapped for seven days in a house with no power in the middle of winter and the warmest room in the house is at 20 degrees.

There are quite a few people i know who said that they wish they had the laptops when they went to school. like my brother. Also my cousin has laptops in his high school in lincoln.

I think that we are very lucky to have own computer to use and to do homework, and i don't know anything about the other school ,maybe they haven't.
