What if???

What if the school did not filter anything on the Internet?  What if we allowed cell phone use in school?  What problems can you imagine if we did this?  Should we allow cell phone use in school?  What would be an appropriate cell phone policy?

Lots of things to think about this week.  Let me know your thoughts.  Have a great weekend.

I think that the school filters on the internet is a good thing. If there were no filters most people would not get anything done because they would be playing games and doing things like that. The cell phone policy i think should be you can have them and use them if the teacher does not mind. Each teacher should have their own class policy on cell phones and you should be able to use your cell phone at lunch and in the hall.

i agree to a certain extent with the no cell phone use during school hours. also take into consieration we as teen agers have very busy lives whether it be with family jobs or friends, so i think cell phone use during the lunch hour should be considered an option maybe if we are on good behavior for the week then on that friday or something.
also with the internet blocks. well you have to block certain websites that aretn educational at all; or those that are down right innaproppriate. but as far as youtube or playlist.com those should be considerd open at all times, if those are using them correctly. but those who dont you maybe be banned from them for a period of time perhaps.

If the school did not filter anything on the internet we would have a lot of people on sites that they shouldn't be on. If we were allowed cell phone use in school it would be amazing, but problems could be that people just txt during school and they don't pay attention in class. I believe that an appropriate cell phone policy would say: no calls during school time, unless at lunch; may text, but only in between classes.

If nothing was filtered on the internet then students would be more interested in what was going on online instead of listening to their teachers or learning. If cell phones were allowed them many students would be more open about their texting as again, not paying as much attention in school.

I think it'd be a lot harder if we never used the internet in school, because I use it for lots of research and I also use it to figure out what words mean. I don't think that using cell phones in school would be a big deal, but we would have to have it only allowed at certain times. I think we should allow them, but only during lunch time and during passing times in the hallway, I think if we had them during class that it would cause problems. Possibly with like cheating and just being a disruption to the teacher when they're trying to teach. But defiantly being able to use cell phones in between classes and during lunch would be an okay thing. Maybe have it allowed in classes if some teachers are okay with it. Just depends on the teacher. They should also be allowed during spare time in class rooms, if the teacher gives permission that its okay.

I think that those who are easily distracted and those who are disruptive would be in even more trouble then before. The internet and cell phones are just distractions. They both have a good side and a bad side to each. I think that if the school's internet was not filtered most people would failing school. If cell phones were allowed we just have a hole lot more people filled with drama and unfocused goals. We'd have people calling their friends anytime they felt like. They would also not be paying attention to their surroundings or those around them ergo, no paying attention to instructors. I think a number of people are already distract by this simple device that it should not be used during the school hours. If there was a policy for having cell phones i would have to say, first no calling or texting during class. Second, use to call parents/guardians. Third, always have phone on silent. Fourth, no setting alarms to "accidentally" go off at anytime. Fifth, break the policy and you'll get your phone taken away and returned back at the end of the next day(unless end of week).

I think that if we do not filter things on the internet it lays in the hands of whoever is on the sight they shouldn't be. Its not our responsibility to make sure everyone is doing what they should. i think cell phones should be able to be used at school or at least lunch cuz really its our education thats in effect.

I do think it's necessary to filter the internet, because god knows what some kids look at! As far as cell phones in school, I think the policy is a little to strict. First of all teachers are always on their phones and answering them during class time, which isn't far. Also, I think that over lunch phones can be allowed. Most kids, like myself, have jobs. There are a lot of times when they call me and I need to call them back, but I have to wait until after school. Also, if phones are being used in the parking lot, its not that big of deal. However, in class it does make sense not to have phones, because some students text answers to each other.

filtering the internet is a very good idea. It keeps students off sites they shouldn't be on. As far as the cell phones go I think it is unfair that we can't use them at least during the lunch hours. I think the policy should be changed so it's not as aggressive.

I think filtering the internet during school is a neccesity. If there is no filtering at all, kids will get them selves into a lot of trouble. I think that some sites should be allowed when one has everything done, but it would be hard to tell when someone is on it when they are done with everything or just messing around. Cell phone use at any time during school is not a good idea. Nobody would accomplish anything if it was okay to use their phones anytime. I think that we should be able to use our phones during lunch and in between classes.

i think schools wanting to watch what kids do on there computers is a good thing for one it is property of the school so that entitles them to watch or hence spy on the students computer. now for the phones i believe that all students should be aloud at lunch and before and after should be aloud to use phones.

I think is a good idea that the school filters on the internet because that way people get their work done without being distracted with the internet. The cell phones?, I think they should be allow during free time, study hall and also during lunch. There are some times that you really need to text somebody for something that you really need and you can't because you're not allow.

I think that the school monitoring what we do on the computers is good because we all know that us kids would just sit there and play games and listen to music and not listen if we were not watched. i think we should be able to use cell phones during lunch because kids just sit and talk, and you never know if there is an emergency that they need to be contacted about or something important like that.

Blocking sites on the school's internet server is a good thing, simply because if certain sites were not blocked, an innumerable amount of students would abuse the internet by going to sites that are not anywhere near appropriate for school. I think YouTube should be unblocked because I use it to listen to music or watch funny videos in study hall when I have nothing else to do. As for use of the cell phones, I believe cell phone use should be permitted during lunch and in the halls; maybe even in certain classes if the teacher permits it. Other than that, I think the school does a good job blocking inappropriate sites and keeping students on task; the current cell phone policy does not bother me much, as I am not 'addicted' to mine, although a lot of other kids are.

Blocking certain websites is a good idea for school so students can their assignments done.
I think the cell phone policy shouldn't be as strict as it is right now. You should be allowed to use your cellphone during lunch.

uhm actually i think that the cell phone policy is both good and bad because some of us need our cell phones . We have jobs and family and some of us in the bigger cities such as lincoln and omaha have children . The way it can be a bad thing is the way us use it to text during class time just for fun . We should be paying attention in class instead of texting . The internet usage shouldnt be as strict as it is right now .

The internet filters are a good thing because students might or would look up inappropriate things online. Also the filters help to make sure students are getting there homework done and not on other sites. With the whole cell phone policy, i think it should change because there are a lot of things going on in this world today. A Cell phone is a very good source of communication in our world today. There are yes and no's on the cell phones: for no's: talking on the phone during class, taking pictures with out permission and so on. Yes's: Texting isn't bad, Using it for homework (calculator).

The filters are there for obvious reasons and wouldn't have been put there if it had a negative affect on students - they are needed. As for the cellphone usage during school hours; the current restrictions are sufficient in my personal opinion. There will always be those who make the decision to use them when instructed not to, and the risk is known. No sympathy to those who get caught.

The internet filters are a good with out it tons of kids would be doing other stuff. Cellphones should be aloud, but only through the policy of the teachers choice.

I think the school filters is a good thing to keep students on task. I think the current cell phone rule is good. If we even relaxed the rule a little bit, we would have a mess. People already use their phones while we have a strict rule. The only thing I would have to say to change is to let teachers make their rules in their classroom. Some teachers don't mind if you have your phone out.

I know a lot of the time when I'm just googling trying to find something, some sites will be blocked for some obscure reason and you can't access the information you're looking for.

I think it would be interesting to go by a no tolerance policy. By that I mean don't filter anything (except maybe the extremes), and simply place those who violate this responsibility on the current filter. If they continue to abuse it, then the white list comes into play.

As far as cell phones, I think during lunch they should be usable. They're not disrupting class, they're not bother others. It just seems like a good compromise.

If the school didn't filter anything on the internet I think that the student would not be paying attention because they might be screwing around on the internet. Some students are different when they are on the internet. They might be doing educational stuff or they might be playing games. If we were allowed to have cell phone in school I think it is not right but i think we should be able to use it when it is an emergency or call for a ride a lunch time. I think cell phone could be usable but not during class time unless it is an emergency.
