Your laptops so far....

I thought it would be good time to "sound off" about your MacBooks. How are things going so far? This week I want you to take some time to blog about what you LIKE and what you DO NOT LIKE about your MacBooks. Be specific and take some time to do this to help us make this program even better next year!!

Well I honestly do think they have gotten better, there were two many rules to follow at the beginning of the year. I do think however that seniors should be allowed some rights over the younger kids, for example allow the seniors to have widgets. It is their senior year they should be allowed something. Also I think that there needs to be an automatic reset "thing" for when people's ichat is taken away. Many people get it taken away and think it will be given back automatically but it is not and people are told it will be taken away for two weeks or months but in reality they never get it back. If they are told they will it back why shouldn't they get it back on the promised time? If there is no log or anything someone could get it taken away one day and go back the next and say it has been a different length of time. Personally I think that when students have a study hall and have no homework they could be allowed to play some games. No harsh ones, but something so they don't just sit there bored out of their minds.

I think that having mac computers are amazing. They are the best thing for our school. There are so many things I use it for, the first one is school work, make up work and notes. My favorite thing about them is imovie or garage band . with this I can create my own music and record my own guitar playing and singing like a profesinal recoding studio. I love being able to work on school work all them time whenever I need to git stuff dun or drop boxed. over all macs are amazing.

I really don't know what to say. I like having it with me all the time so whenever i need to do homework i can or if i am somewhere i can get the internet i can use it so if i have online homework i need to get done but i don't have a computer where i am at i can use by MacBook.

I have been enjoying these laptops and might be getting one for college. It was really hard to get used to having everything on computers. I find myself still printing of paper such as my vocab because I study better with paper right in front of me. I don't like that teachers put assignments on angel like after school hours because I don't have internet on my macbook so I don't always see when things are due. It is a harder to stay organized with them. I like all of the programs such as iphoto and frame by frame. The macs are pretty handy.

Ok well so far I have loved the mac book and i prefer them over pc's but i have noticed that sometimes it takes a really long time for things to load and that the edges break off easily. Also it is hard for me to study off of the computer i do better when i have it on a page in front of me, sometimes that becomes a pain when im at home and dont have a printer. I think the programs are pretty good though, and i enoy doing my homework through the computer rather then doing it on paper.

Well, I have no problems with the Macbooks this year. They are educational tools and are being used as such. I know installing new things on the Hard Disk is not allowed and I haven't installed anything on my Mac but I have noticed that my Mac has only 6 GB of hard disk space (that's laughable because I think these things are capable of 120 gigs).

I have no problem with the Macbooks but just a problem with the fact that we aren't using them to their full potential, we gotta over-clock these babies, we have to see what they are really capable of >=).

No, I am joking, in all honesty if I had a Macbook of my own I would run it ragged just to see what it is capable of, I would want to see just how much I could push on it.

Okay I am starting to ramble so I better end it. All in all I have no problems with the Macbooks and I think they should stay how they are.

On a side note, get the LightSpeed filter back, that was cooler than St. Bernard, we could access Facebook and YouTube before and after school and it was cooler. I also think that, if you do get LightSpeed for next year it should be switch ON from 8:00-3:00 and then the last 15 mins of school have it OFF.

well, in my opinion is macbook is very comfortable for me and a lot better than normal computer like xp, but there are many programs like imovie, garage band and itone, that i usually use it, sometime i think i dont like something like Blocking MSN program, because when i at home u want to keep contact my friend from these program, but it could not be use on mac, it's not allowed me to use, the point is It should be block at school to protect the student talking but after school I think it's should allow us to use it.

well
I like my Mac a lot. I use it everyday even im at home.

I really like the laptops they are good for the school and enhance learning greatly. I like the portability of the laptops and the fact that we can take them home with us. The only thing that bothers me is that some teachers are still stuck on not using the new technology and don't have angel sites.

To many websites are blocked that aren't bad. I understand that you guys don't really have a say in what is blocked or not but isn't there a way that you guys can do it on your own. I really like the easiness of the programs, but I would really like to know how to do a few of them better, like photoshop, garageband, and iMovie.

I like how fast our Macs are sometimes. I won't like it when we turn our computers back in for summer break all our music will get deleted??....

The computers come in handy when I'm taking notes or researching assignments. I don't like how teachers expect us to hand in our homework through angel because its not always reliable.

At times I really enjoy the laptops and at other times they really frustrate me. Somethings I like about the computers is that it's really nice to do research on. But somethings i hate about the laptops is that it will freeze up and then you have to shut it down but overall the good over weighs the bad.

Well, my laptop is pretty cool, i mean i like it but there is always something triggereing it, like sometimes it doens't turn on or charge, its wierd. I really like the fact that i can lay in my bed and facebook all the time haha, and that i can have access to the internet all the time, i like the dictionary and pretty much everything about it. I just don't really like when it shuts off or doesn't charge like its suppose to, and it seems like my battery doesn't last that long. But other than that i can't complain they are a great way of using technology.

I think the macbooks have been great for our school. I love having it with me and I'm probably over dependent on it. They're great for school reasons and also for other reasons, but either way, they're increasing our knowledge of technology. To make it better next year, I think we should be allowed to download applications. For example, the latest version of iTunes, or keynote. These are applications already put on the computer. Why can't we upgrade them? Also, other applications that could be useful. Obviously SOME should be blocked, but I don't think its reasonable to have All of them blocked.

I think that the Mac usage has come a long way since last year. The teachers have kind of figured out how to use them so they have incorporated them more in class, and the kids have also become more comfortable with them. They have really enhanced my learning experience and I feel that I will be way more technologically inclined than my peers in college.

They arent too bad i guess. It gets annoying when you try to go to a site and it is fine one day and the next day its blocked, but other than that , oh and the fact that some programs "unexpectedly" quit when you are in the middle of a project they are fine.

I think our macs are great and were lucky to have them. I think some of the things they block aren't always agreeable. I think we should be able to have slacker and facebook for down time when we aren't busy in class. The mac's are great to have and keep us in contact with homework and current events. I think all seniors will end up buying one after school is over...

Things are doing well with my computer. I don't have any things I don't like about my laptop except the re-router. But other than that there isn't anything about the macbooks that I dislike. I agree with Jacqueline about the widget idea. Seniors should be allowed to use widgets, it's their last year. Unless they abuse it. Then they don't deserve to have them. That's all I can think about really.

I like having one computer to use at both school and home so I don't have to transfer my work back and forth. I have really grown to like MacBooks, in fact I'm planning on getting one for college. The only thing I don't like about having the laptops is Angel. Alot of teachers expect students to turn in their work through Angel, and its not very dependable.

I love them and defiantly planning on getting one for college. they are the best because they are little and convenient. And with the white pages thing , honestly its a good idea. I use my computer for so much , and have not ever been on white pages ( other than the one time last, i had ichat taken away, but it was right after we got our computers :)) the only thing is how they crack on the edge from those little bars. also the carriers get a little irritating, the strap always pops off and the bag is kinda bulky, but the applications and way of education they provide is amazing!

Anonymous said...

They'd be great if people would use them for their intended purpose, but they don't and that continues to surprise me, and even the restrictions are seeming to help. Thats all I'm going to say about that, but the computers themselves are awesome, the more I figure out the more I like them.

I Do appreciate the macbooks. Having this technology at your finger tips is great, and being able to use it 24/7 is even better. it does make the school work easier and faster. although one thing i do dislike is some of the rules and strictness for these macs. I would like to be able to play games or talk to friends if i have extra time at the begging or end of the class and not worry about getting into trouble.

Anonymous said...

The only thing wrong with these macs is that they are fragile and can loose some of your stuff. Can freeze way to easily. Otherwise, I like this computer. It is way easier than the computer I own. I like the program Word, it has really neat stuff on it. And I like the sticky notes, the dash board, though we could use a little more widgets, I mean come on what is so bad about that? I also like the drag and drop and the photo shop. The i movie and i photo and the photo booth. And lighten up on white paging the game sites, not all of them are bad. Sometimes we get bored, so let us do something instead of nothing

I like GarageBand and iTunes, mostly cause i love music. there are alot of things i don't about the schools macs. Macs in general are great but i think the school has recked many good parts about them. Whitelist on firefox is a good idea for kids on academic probation but the school is far too strict on it.
I am whitelisted and i can't log on to angel on firefox and safari doesn't let me use it fully. many internet resources that teachers ue are blocked. i couldn't get to 'turn it in' for a week. and i had to almost beg to get my vocab and blog unlocked for English, which i still can't summit my blog. right now i am using a friends mac because mine could not get here, a teachers site with blogs that effect my grade. many times i find myself borrowing others macs so i can get my work done. normal homework that may take 30mins now takes over an hour because now i have to run around borrowing other computers and doing all my work the long annoying way.
The school puts kids on academic probation so they mess around less and do there work more but it ends up making it so hard and annoying to do work that you end up not caring, hating your mac, and leaving it in a dark corner when you don't HAVE to use it

Unknown on March 25, 2009 at 2:10 PM said...

Well, the Whitelist needs a little bit of editing; I can't do much of my homework because of it and it makes me a little mad, but it did get me to work on my homework a little more than usual. Now I don't use my mac at all. Now that I am on the whitelist; it is just a case for loose paper, and I don't use it for any classes. The only class i would use it in would be my computer classes but I use windows for one and the other class i need what it doesn't have, the internet. For the most part it is just a paper weight if i could use it I would. When they do work they are more of a distraction than an aid. I am glad I got the chance to use a mac though because now I am more universal with computers. If I ever get enough money I would get one for myself, and have parallels on it, no blockers no restrictions,
